Newcastle moved a step closer to ending a 54-year major trophy drought with a 2-0 quarter-final win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.
Venue of the match was in the explosive St James’ Park atmosphere.
From the blast of the first whistle, Newcastle dominated and continued until the 60th minute before opening the scoring when Dan Burn got his first goal for the club.
This lead was doubled 12 minutes later as Joelinton came in from behind through the left and picked out the same corner as Burn did to seal the victory.
Leicester, offered little for most parts of the match.
Without the still injured James Maddison, Leicester did create a few late openings but substitute Jamie Vardy wasted the most of them.
