The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Ridwan Disu has pledged to establish additional operational bases across Kwara State as part of renewed efforts to tackle insecurity and rid the state of criminal activities.
Disu made the commitment during his first operational visit to the state since assuming office, where he met with officers and stakeholders at the Nigeria Police Force command headquarters in Ilorin.
The visit was aimed at assessing the security situation and strengthening ongoing operations against banditry and other forms of crime.
Addressing officers and men of the command, the police chief assured residents that the force would intensify its operations and expand its presence in vulnerable areas through the creation of additional operational bases. According to him, the move is designed to improve rapid response to security threats and enhance police visibility across communities.
The IGP noted that he was already familiar with the security challenges in the state, having earlier led a police tactical team involved in clearance operations targeting criminal hideouts in forest areas. He emphasized that the police and other security agencies would work together to reclaim communities affected by banditry and kidnapping.
“Criminals cannot pursue us out of our towns. We are the owners of the towns and we will not allow that to happen,” Disu said, urging officers to remain resolute in confronting criminal elements.
During the visit, the IGP also held discussions with AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara State, whom he commended for supporting security agencies with logistics and other resources needed for effective policing.
He further assured police personnel that their welfare would remain a priority under his leadership, acknowledging the risks officers face daily in the line of duty.
Disu’s visit is widely seen as part of a broader strategy by the police leadership to strengthen security infrastructure and deepen collaboration between law enforcement agencies, government authorities, and local communities in combating crime across the state.
