The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected varying intensities of thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Monday, July 22 to Wednesday, July 24.

In its three-day weather forecast issued in Abuja on Sunday, NiMet highlighted that early morning thunderstorms and rainfall are likely on Monday in several northern states, including Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna. Other parts of the northern region are expected to experience mostly sunny conditions with intermittent cloud cover.

By afternoon and evening hours, additional rainfall activity is anticipated in areas such as Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Yobe.

In central Nigeria, morning cloudiness is expected, especially over Niger State, with light rain and thunderstorms forecast later in the day across Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Benue, and Niger.

The southern parts of the country will begin the day under cloudy skies, with light rain anticipated later in states such as Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

On Tuesday, July 23, the northern region is predicted to see a mix of sunshine and cloud patches in the morning, while areas like Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Jigawa may experience thunderstorms and moderate rain. Later in the day, storms are likely to spread to Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna.

The central zone may receive light morning rainfall in parts of Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa, with more significant thunderstorms and rain expected later in areas including Niger, FCT, and Nasarawa.

In the South, morning cloud cover will persist with likely rain over Akwa Ibom and Cross River, followed by moderate showers in Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and surrounding states during the afternoon and evening hours.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, July 24, NiMet expects mostly sunny conditions with some cloudiness over the northern region. However, areas such as Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba could see early morning rain. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are also projected for Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Borno, and Kebbi.

Rainfall is also expected to continue in the central region with areas such as FCT, Plateau, Niger, and Kwara likely to experience moderate showers later in the day.

In the South, isolated morning rains may affect Enugu, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, with heavier downpours expected by afternoon across Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

NiMet advised the public to take precautionary measures against severe weather, particularly where strong winds may accompany thunderstorms. The agency warned against driving during intense rainfall and recommended disconnecting electrical appliances during storms and staying away from tall or unstable trees.

Airline operators were urged to obtain detailed, location-specific weather updates to support flight safety and planning.

Residents were also encouraged to remain updated through NiMet’s forecasts and visit the agency’s official website at www.nimet.gov.ng for timely weather information.
