In a bold step towards integrating technology into grassroots security and youth empowerment, Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti‑Uduaghan of Kogi Central facilitated a two-day Drone Security Training workshop from July 12 to 13, 2025, at her constituency office in Okene.
The training brought together 250 participants, primarily youths from across the five local government areas of Kogi Central, to learn essential drone operation skills with a focus on surveillance, security patrols, and agricultural monitoring.

The workshop covered both theoretical knowledge and hands-on flight practice, with participants receiving direct instruction from certified drone experts invited by the Senator’s office.

While addressing the trainees on the opening day, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized the importance of adapting to global trends in security and innovation. “We cannot afford to be left behind in the 21st century. Drone technology is not just a luxury—it’s a tool for security, farming, and even emergency response. This training is a seed. From here, you all can grow into security consultants, tech entrepreneurs, and community defenders,” she said.
Participants were also introduced to Nigeria’s regulatory framework on drone usage, including legal compliance, licensing procedures, and ethical standards. The training culminated in a certification ceremony, with Senator Natasha pledging continued support for advanced-level training and deployment of trained drone squads to assist in community policing and surveillance efforts.
This initiative adds to the Senator’s growing record of technologically driven and people-centered programs. She has previously launched educational support schemes, vocational skill-building initiatives, and advocacy for industrial revitalization in her region.
As the newly trained drone operators prepare to support local efforts in improving community security and rural development, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s latest move may serve as a model for future constituency empowerment through technology.

Rextun City Updates acknowledges the significance of this training as a historical milestone in grassroots tech-driven security and a commendable example of responsive representation in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic.
