The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has slammed Kano Pillars FC with a ₦9.5 million fine, a three-point deduction, and an indefinite stadium ban following violent scenes during their home game against Shooting Stars SC in Kano.
The sanctions, announced on Monday, followed a pitch invasion by angry fans at the Sani Abacha Stadium after Shooting Stars netted a late equaliser during their Matchday 8 encounter. Match officials and players were reportedly attacked before security operatives restored order.
According to the NPFL’s disciplinary summary signed by Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, Kano Pillars were found guilty of several breaches — including failure to provide adequate security, allowing pitch encroachment, assault on referees and visiting players, and bringing the league to disrepute.
The league further ordered the club to play its subsequent home matches in Katsina pending security clearance, while also compensating match officials and injured Shooting Stars personnel.
Kano Pillars’ General Manager, Ahmed Musa, condemned the violence and apologised to the NPFL, match officials, and fans nationwide, promising internal disciplinary measures.
The club has 48 hours to either accept the punishment or file an appeal before the NPFL disciplinary panel.
