Arsenal produced a stirring late show at the Emirates Stadium as Gabriel Martinelli came off the bench to rescue a 1-1 draw against Manchester City in a tense Premier League encounter on Sunday.
The visitors struck early, stunning the home crowd in the ninth minute when Erling Haaland finished coolly from a Tijjani Reijnders pass.
City, uncharacteristically content to defend deep, frustrated Mikel Arteta’s side for much of the first half. Arsenal enjoyed the bulk of possession but struggled to find a breakthrough as Pep Guardiola’s men held their shape and limited clear chances.
Arteta responded at the interval with bold changes, introducing Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze to inject more creativity and pace. The substitutions tilted the balance, with Arsenal gradually pinning City back and creating waves of pressure.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was called into action repeatedly, while City’s possession dropped to just over 30 percent, the lowest ever recorded for a Guardiola team in the Premier League.
As the match edged into stoppage time, Arsenal’s persistence finally paid off. In the 93rd minute, Eze lifted a perfectly weighted ball over the City back line, and Martinelli ghosted in to meet it. With Donnarumma rushing out, the Brazilian forward calmly lobbed the keeper, sending the Emirates into raptures and snatching a precious point.
The result keeps Arsenal’s unbeaten run against City alive and lifts them to 10 points from five matches, though Liverpool remain clear at the top of the table. For Guardiola, the draw will feel like a missed opportunity, with City now seven points adrift in the early title race.
Martinelli’s late heroics underscored Arsenal’s growing resilience and squad depth, while Haaland’s first-half strike served as a reminder of City’s ruthless efficiency. On a night of tactical intrigue and high drama, the Gunners showed that even when the odds seem stacked against them, they can still find a way to fight back.
