The Niger State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed that no fewer than 30 people were killed when suspected bandits attacked Kasuwan Daji Market in Demo community, Borgu Local Government Area of the state.

The attackers were also reported to have abducted several traders, looted foodstuffs and other valuables worth millions of naira, and set the popular market ablaze during the raid.

According to local sources, the assailants stormed the community at about 4 p.m. on Saturday and continued their operation into the early hours of Sunday, leaving devastation in their wake.

Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson in the state, Wasiu Abiodun, said the attackers were believed to have come from the National Park forest along the Kabe District axis.

Abiodun disclosed that information received by the police at about 9 p.m. on January 3, 2026, indicated that the bandits invaded Kasuwan Daji at approximately 4:30 p.m. the same day, burning the market, looting shops, and carting away food items.
