Suspected kidnappers who abducted Mrs. Morenike Falona, the wife of an Irele-based motorcycle dealer in Ondo State, have reportedly demanded a ransom of N100 million for her release.
Mrs. Falona, 35, was reportedly abducted from her residence in Ode-Irele, the headquarters of Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, during a late-night attack by armed assailants. The incident, which occurred in the presence of family members, has heightened concerns over the growing insecurity in parts of the state.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the kidnappers established contact with members of the victim’s family approximately two days after the abduction and demanded N100 million as a condition for her freedom. The sources said the call was made to one of the family members, throwing relatives and residents of the community into further anxiety.
Confirming the abduction, the Ondo State Police Command said efforts were underway to secure the victim’s safe rescue. Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh stated that security operatives were working with other agencies and local security outfits in an intelligence-driven operation aimed at locating the kidnappers and rescuing Mrs. Falona unharmed.
The police, however, said they were not officially aware of any ongoing ransom negotiations between the abductors and the victim’s family. Authorities maintained that rescue efforts remain active and expressed optimism that the victim would be recovered without the payment of ransom.
The incident has sparked concern among residents of Irele and surrounding communities, with many calling for intensified security measures to curb the rising threat of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, Mrs. Falona remained in captivity while security agencies continued efforts to secure her release.
