A Nigerian Navy officer, Lieutenant SN Obini, has been dismissed from service and handed a three-year prison sentence after being found guilty of having an affair with a fellow officer’s wife.
The judgment came after a Special Court-Martial convened by Naval Headquarters sat on the matter and ruled against him.
According to military authorities, Obini was charged with unlawful sexual relations, scandalous conduct, and deceiving a witness, offenses punishable under Sections 79 and 91 of the Armed Forces Act, as well as Section 114 of the Criminal Code.
The sentence, which takes effect retroactively from November 23, 2024, was formally executed at the Nigerian Navy Institute of Technology parade ground in Sapele on August 29, 2025.
Naval Headquarters confirmed that due process was followed throughout the proceedings.
The Navy Board reviewed and upheld the verdict before the punishment was announced publicly, stressing that the outcome demonstrates the service’s zero-tolerance for indiscipline, regardless of rank or position.
By taking such a decisive step, the Nigerian Navy has once again sent a strong signal that integrity, loyalty, and adherence to the Armed Forces Act remain non-negotiable for every officer and personnel under its command.
