The Oyo State Police Command has rejected claims that Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, played a role in the release of kidnapped victims in Igboho, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The clarification followed widespread reports and social media reactions suggesting that the victims regained their freedom shortly after Sunday Igboho issued a two-hour ultimatum to suspected kidnappers operating in the area.
According to reports, the victims, said to include a pregnant woman, her children and another family member, were abducted in the community, triggering concern among residents. In response, Sunday Igboho reportedly addressed Fulani leaders in the area and demanded the immediate release of the captives within two hours.
Not long after the ultimatum, news emerged that the abducted family had regained their freedom, leading many residents and social media users to attribute the development to the activist’s intervention. The victims’ return reportedly sparked celebrations in parts of the community.
However, the Oyo State Police Command has firmly distanced the release from any action taken by Sunday Igboho. The command maintained that there was no evidence linking the activist to the victims’ freedom and dismissed reports suggesting that he facilitated their rescue.
Police authorities stressed that security agencies remain responsible for combating kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state. The command urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating confusion or undermining ongoing security operations.
The development has sparked debate among residents, with some maintaining that the timing of the victims’ release appeared significant, while law enforcement authorities insist that any claims connecting the activist to the outcome remain speculative and unsupported by official findings.
As discussions continue, the police have reiterated their commitment to tackling insecurity and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Oyo State.
