Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made moves to calm the uprising generated by the zoning and endorsement of candidates for National Assembly principal offices.
The party’s National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has hinted that the National Working Committee (NWC) is considering a review of the zoning formula.
The ruling party which is also preparing to form a fresh government had earlier this week zoned the Senate President to the Southsouth, Deputy Senate President to the Northwest, House Speaker to the Northwest and Deputy Speaker to Southeast.
Following the floating of this Zoning formula, the media space became awash with stories of endorsements of Senator Godswill Akpabio for Senate President, Barau Jibrin for Deputy Senate President, Tajudeen Abbas for Speaker and Benjamin Kalu for Deputy Speaker.
Party chairman Abdullahi Adamu stated that the resulting protests have imposed on the party leadership the urgency of extensive consultations over zoning.
Meanwhile, aggrieved aspirants for the position of House Speaker –Idris Wase, Aliyu Betera and Yusuf Gagdi – on Wednesday stormed the APC National Secretariat in Abuja to protest against the developments.
Also, Ondo state governor Akeredolu has carpeted the zoning formula. He stated that the contents, intentions and motives are omens of subtle steps to hijack and cage the hard-earned Tinubu Presidency by cabals.
An aspirant to the seat of Senate President,Senator Osita Izunaso has urged President Muhammadu Buhari, President-elect Bola Tinubu and the party chairman to come up with an acceptable zoning formula in the spirit of equity, fairness and justice.
