Armed bandits on Wednesday struck the quiet Oro Ago community in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing a prominent hotelier in a shocking daylight attack.
The victim, identified as Chief Oladepo Aina, was the Baape of Iyatedo and the Chief Executive Officer of Kebe Hotel. Sources revealed that the assailants targeted him at his hotel around 4 p.m., shortly after he returned from Omu-Aran.
Witnesses said the attackers attempted to abduct the hotelier where he sat at the front of the premises, but when he resisted, they opened fire, fatally shooting him on the spot.
Initial reports suggested that some residents may have been abducted during the violent invasion, but Kwara State Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo dismissed the kidnapping claims. Ojo confirmed only the murder of Chief Aina, stressing that no one else was taken during the incident.
The brutal killing has heightened fears among residents of Oro Ago, who have voiced growing concerns over recurring bandit activities despite the presence of security operatives in the region.
The tragic death of Chief Aina underscores the escalating insecurity across parts of Kwara State and the urgent need for reinforced protection of vulnerable communities.
