At least five farmers have been killed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Goshe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to local sources, the attack occurred on Saturday morning while the victims were working on their farmlands. Eyewitnesses said the insurgents stormed the area unexpectedly and opened fire on the farmers, leaving several dead on the spot.
The tragic incident has thrown the farming community into mourning, with residents expressing fear over renewed insurgent activities in the region. Many villagers have reportedly fled the area to avoid further attacks.
A community leader, who confirmed the incident, called for urgent government intervention to protect farmers in the troubled parts of Borno State. He noted that recurring attacks threaten food production and worsen insecurity in the North-East.
Security operatives have yet to officially comment on the incident as of press time, but sources say troops have been mobilized to the area to forestall further violence.
Gwoza has been one of the hardest-hit local government areas in Borno, serving as a hotspot for Boko Haram and ISWAP activities over the years. The latest attack highlights the persistent security challenges facing rural communities in the North-East despite ongoing military operations.
