Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze, broke an eight-game goal drought for AC Milan by scoring the only goal in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Udinese at the San Siro on Saturday, October 19.
This crucial win marked a significant turning point for the team and Samuel Chukwueze, as it was his first goal of the 2024-2025 season.
Chukwueze’s decisive strike came at a vital moment for the Rossoneri, who played with 10 men after a first-half red card.
His goal not only secured three important points for the team but also provided an essential boost in confidence for a player striving to establish himself in Italian football after joining the club from Villarreal in the summer of 2023.
Despite a promising start, Chukwueze had faced challenges in his debut season, managing only three goals across all competitions. These included two strikes during the UEFA Champions League group stage against tough opponents like Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United last season.

Entering the match against Udinese, Milan was still feeling the sting of a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina, where they not only missed two penalties but also witnessed key players like Theo Hernandez and Tammy Abraham falter in their performances.
This backdrop of inconsistency added pressure to the squad as they looked to regain their footing in the league.
Milan’s manager, Stefano Pioli, opted for a tactical reshuffle for the clash against Udinese, making the bold decision to start without star player Rafael Leao, who was dropped to the bench.
Instead, he deployed Christian Pulisic alongside veteran striker Alvaro Morata, positioning him behind young talent Noah Okafor. This strategic adjustment proved pivotal in creating the opportunities that led to Chukwueze’s goal.
The decisive moment unfolded early in the match when Okafor displayed impressive speed as he surged down the left flank. He delivered a spot-on pass to Pulisic, who laid the ball off perfectly for Chukwueze, who, with a swift and assured left-footed strike, found the back of the net, sending the San Siro crowd into a frenzy.
Chukwueze’s goal took on added significance when Milan faced a setback just before the half-hour mark. Midfielder Tijjani Reijnders received a straight red card for a last-man foul on Udinese’s Sandi Lovric, leaving the home team to defend their slender lead for over an hour with a man down. This adversity heightened the drama of the match and demonstrated the team’s resilience under pressure.
With this goal, Chukwueze now has four goals for Milan, which includes his earlier efforts against Hellas Verona and his contributions in European competitions last season.
