DHQ Interrogates Soldiers Over Kebbi Schoolgirls Abduction Amid Questions on Security Lapses

Posted on November 29, 2025November 29, 2025 By Rextun boss No Comments on DHQ Interrogates Soldiers Over Kebbi Schoolgirls Abduction Amid Questions on Security Lapses

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Abuja has launched a full-scale investigation into the security breach that led to the abduction of 26 female students from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. All military personnel previously deployed to the school have been summoned and are currently undergoing interrogation.

The probe follows the daring attack carried out by armed bandits in the early hours of November 17, during which the assailants stormed the school premises, killed the vice-principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and abducted the schoolgirls from their hostels. The incident renewed nationwide concerns over worsening insecurity in the North-West and the vulnerability of educational institutions.

One of the most disturbing revelations that triggered the DHQ investigation is the reported withdrawal of soldiers from the school shortly before the attack. Community leaders and local officials alleged that the troops, who had been stationed at the school for months due to known security threats, were pulled out hours before the bandits launched their assault.

Military authorities have neither confirmed nor denied the withdrawal but insisted that an internal inquiry is necessary to determine the accuracy of the claims. Sources within DHQ revealed that the interrogation aims to uncover who authorized the troop movement, why it occurred, and whether proper security protocols were followed.

Families of the abducted students have expressed deep frustration and grief about the incident. Many parents say the alleged troop withdrawal has only deepened their suspicion that negligence or communication lapses may have created an opening for the attackers.

Security experts have also questioned the timing of the withdrawal, describing it as a serious operational failure if confirmed. Analysts argue that troops stationed at high-risk schools should only be redeployed under clearly defined circumstances and with replacement forces already on the ground.

Meanwhile, following concerted efforts, the Schoolgirls have been rescued from captivity few days ago.

The Kebbi State Government has called for calm, promising that all relevant agencies are working tirelessly to forestall a repeat occurrence. Officials also pledged to strengthen security across boarding schools, particularly in rural communities prone to bandit attacks.

As the interrogation of the soldiers continues, Nigerians are demanding accountability and a clearer explanation of what went wrong. The outcome of the investigation is expected to shape future security deployment strategies around schools in volatile regions.

The DHQ has assured the public that any personnel found culpable, whether through negligence, misconduct, or breach of operational procedure, will face disciplinary or legal action. The nation now watches closely as authorities seek answers and work to ensure that such a devastating incident does not happen again.
