The Federal Government’s newly deployed high-tech surveillance system has recorded a major early victory after its CCTV cameras caught three suspected vandals in the act on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge, leading to their immediate arrest and renewed public confidence in technology-driven infrastructure protection.
The dramatic incident unfolded when operators at the CCTV control centre noticed suspicious movements along a section of the bridge during routine live monitoring, prompting an instant security alert and rapid deployment of law enforcement officers to the scene.
Within minutes, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force intercepted the suspects on the bridge, arresting them as the surveillance footage continued to stream in real time, marking the first publicly confirmed operational success of the newly inaugurated monitoring system.
Authorities later confirmed that the suspects were attempting to remove solar-powered reflective road studs, commonly known as cat-eye lights, which are installed to enhance night-time visibility and improve safety for motorists using the busy bridge.
