Over N200 Billion Kwara State Funds Squandered By APC Government – PDP

Says Graft and Capital Flight, order of the day in the state

Carpets Kwara House of Assembly over refusal to domesticate FOI in the state

The kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has decried the squandering of over N200 billion of state funds by the Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq led APC regime in Kwara state.

In the same spell, the PDP has queried what results there are to show for the N100.68 billion KWIRS IGR inflow, in the period between 2019 and 15th September 2022.

The party alluded to the fact that these revenues and it’s expenditures were systematically shrouded in secrecy by the regime in “cahoots with the KWHA” who have refused to pass the FOI bill that would give rights to kwarans, seeking to ask questions about state affairs.

The Kwara State House of Assembly has in the past three years of this regime employed parliamentary filibusters to delay the domestication of the FOI act of the National Assembly in the state.

In a press release of 02/10/2022, titled: KWARA’S HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS SQUANDERED BY MEDIOCRE APC PARTY REGIME; signed by Prince ‘Tunji Moronfoye, the kwara State PDP publicity Secretary and made available to Rextun City Updates; the party observed that “The Kwara state Peoples Democratic party (PDP) are vindicated by the Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) publication showing the revenue generation agency generated Twenty Three Billion, four hundred and sixty million Naira (N23.46B) for nine months from January to September 2022. The revenue agency also published that it generated one hundred Billion, six hundred and eighty million Naira (N100.68B) from 2019 to September 15th 2022.”

The release further stated that from inception of the present APC regime to date ” Kwara state has received over two hundred Billion Naira (+-N200B) from the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) since 2019.”

These funds are apart from the widely criticized penchant of the regime for loans. The release noted that ” The inept Kwara state APC party regime has also accessed over Forty six Billion in loans, not to mention various grants from both foreign and local donor agencies. We must not forget about the Five Billion and two hundred million Naira (N5.2B) seized from a legitimate Kwara Government which was legally and Democratically in power, before the end of it’s tenure by the former Ilorin zonal head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Isyaku Sharu.”

Further, the PDP also alleged wasteful, frivolous ventures with state funds and white elephant projects that are unjustifiable and beneficially irrelevant to the people of Kwara State. According to the party, “We have seen wasteful white elephant and elitist projects, which are incomplete even after over three years. We have seen various state programs that were money wasting jamborees.”

The party called for proper and transparent accountability while concluding that
“after all the massive inflow of hundreds of billion Naira in to Kwara state coffers, why Kwarans have to endure hardships of collapsed infrastructure, collapsed social and environmental services, pothole riddled roads, unpaid seven months salaries of Kwara state workers in Harmony holdings (Kwara hotels), lack of serviceable vehicles at Kwara Express, lack of diagnostic test equipment at the Harmony Advanced Diagnostic center and lack of serious empowerment initiatives for our youths. Not to mention the comatose state of Kwara state agriculture.” Was regrettable and ” Kwara state deserves better”
