Residents of Ogbe and nearby settlements in Kogi State were thrown into anxiety on Friday after armed attackers struck along the Ogbe–Egbe road, leaving several travellers kidnapped and another person injured.
According to local accounts, the victims were part of a small group journeying from Ogbe to Egbe to attend a wedding ceremony. The trip was abruptly cut short when gunmen reportedly emerged around the Ogbe–Koro boundary and opened fire, forcing the travellers to flee.
During the chaos, one member of the group sustained a gunshot injury and was later transported to a hospital for urgent medical attention. Five others were overpowered by the assailants and led away into nearby forested areas.
The latest incident has heightened fears among residents who rely on the rural route for social and economic activities. Community members say attacks along the corridor have become increasingly frequent, raising questions about the safety of commuters.
Locals are now urging security agencies and state authorities to reinforce patrols on the Ogbe–Egbe axis, warning that continued neglect of the road could expose more residents to similar attacks.
