The very mention of termites can strike fear in the heart of even the most courageous homeowner.
These highly organized insects are the most prolific wood-destroying pest everywhere costing home and business owners billions.
According to Ohio State University research, If you think you have a termite infestation, it’s best to tackle them early.
Termites are not to be taken lightly. So when you find signs of their infestation around your house, follow the steps below:
1.
Look for termite entry points. These might be cracks in the foundation or a concrete slab that abuts the house, holes in the siding or holes in masonry. You will likely see discarded wings and maybe the termites themselves.
2.
Mix equal parts warm water and salt in a quart jar, and stir until the salt dissolves. The water should be very salty. Termites avoid salt — including salty soil — so the more salt, the better.
3.
Fill the syringe and inject the salty water into the termite entry points. Pour it on the soil around entry points near the ground as well. If termites do venture into the salt solution, they will become dehydrated and will eventually die, according to Green Dragon Pest Solutions.
4.
Apply the salt solution to areas around your home as a preventative measure.
