A Magistrate Court sitting in Kano has directed two popular TikTok personalities, Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to formalise their relationship through marriage within 60 days, following their arrest over viral videos deemed indecent by authorities.
The duo was apprehended by officials of the Kano State Censorship Board after clips showing Wushirya shirtless and displaying affectionate gestures toward Yar Guda, a dwarf woman, circulated widely on social media.
The board described the videos as “immoral, demeaning, and contrary to the moral standards of the state.”
According to the board, the conduct of the influencers violated existing laws that prohibit the creation and distribution of obscene or sexually suggestive content within the state.
Delivering judgment on Monday, Magistrate Halima Wali ordered the Hisbah Board to supervise the marriage process between the pair. She further cautioned that failure to comply within the stipulated 60 days would amount to contempt of court.
The case has stirred debate across social media, with many Nigerians questioning the legality and morality of the court’s decision, while others applauded it as a step toward preserving public decency in the conservative northern state.
