The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has ordered the compulsory retirement of a Sharia Court judge after finding him culpable of receiving a ₦250,000 bribe in connection with a case before his court.
The decision followed the Commission’s consideration of the report of the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee, which investigated allegations of misconduct against judicial officers and court personnel across the state.
The affected judge, Aliyu Yahaya Muhammad of the Bebeji Sharia Court, was found to have accepted the bribe while handling Suit No. CV/474/2024 between Talatu Ibrahim and Muntari Abubakar Baguda.
In addition to his compulsory retirement, the Commission directed the judge to refund the entire ₦250,000 he was found to have received unlawfully.
The disciplinary action formed part of a broader crackdown by the Kano State Judicial Service Commission aimed at reinforcing accountability and restoring public confidence in the administration of justice.
The Commission also sanctioned other court personnel over various acts of misconduct, underscoring its resolve to uphold ethical standards and integrity within the state’s judiciary.
