A judge of the Kebbi State High Court, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, has been abducted by suspected bandits at his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred around midnight in the early hours of Sunday, July 26, when armed men stormed the judge’s residence along Zogirma Road, shortly after he returned from a trip to Sokoto State.
A family source said the attackers took the judge away during the operation, while no physical harm was reported among other occupants of the residence or nearby residents.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the abduction. Its spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, had deployed tactical and intelligence personnel to locate and rescue the judge.
According to the police, security operatives are searching identified locations, including forest areas, as efforts continue to secure Justice Bunza’s safe release.
The management of the Kebbi State High Court has also reportedly engaged security authorities over the incident, which has raised fresh concerns about the security of judicial officers and residents in parts of the state. No group had, as of the latest reports, publicly claimed responsibility for the abduction.
