The eviction team from the Ministry of Social Development toured the Post Office, Tipper Garage, Offa Garage and Geri Alimi axes of the metropolis where no fewer than 10 lunatics and 31 beggars were evicted during the flag off of the exercise.
The evicted people were taken to one of the ministry’s rehabilitation homes for treatment and subsequent repatriation.
Speaking to journalists after the exercise, the Commissioner for Social Development, Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, explained that the exercise was part of the ministry’s responsibilities and a means to further ensure that the society was cleansed of environmental defacement and insanity.

Afolashade said, “Kwara State will not condone any act of street begging, as it depicts laziness and also litters the environment, while wandering lunatics can also pose danger to the society.”
She further said that some of the beggars and lunatics were harmful to the society and were evil perpetrators who disguised themselves to carry out their dastardly acts.
She, therefore, warned those indulging in such acts to desist or be ready to face the wrath of the law.
