— Sets Dates for Commissioning of Patigi Regatta Motel, International Conference Centre, and Other Landmark Projects
The Kwara State Government has reiterated its strong commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, and a vibrant business ecosystem across the state.
Speaking during the 2025 Q3 Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing organized by the Ministry of Communications and held at the Ministry of Finance conference room in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Hon. Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, highlighted major achievements and ongoing projects under her ministry.
According to Adelodun, the ministry has successfully implemented 11 landmark projects across the three senatorial districts, all aimed at accelerating industrialization, driving innovation, and promoting sustainable economic growth in the state.
She emphasized that the Ilorin Innovation Hub, now regarded as the largest technology hub in Nigeria, has become a center for startups and entrepreneurs, offering co-working spaces, mentorship, and innovation programs to promote digital creativity and business development.
The Commissioner also celebrated the success of the Kwara Garment Factory, one of the biggest garment production centers in Nigeria, which has created hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for residents and strengthened the local manufacturing industry.
On the state’s growing film and entertainment sector, Adelodun noted that the Sugar Film Factory has put Kwara on the national creative map. The factory is currently producing its first television series titled “Ajuwaya” — a pioneering project that is expected to boost youth engagement and drive investment in the entertainment industry.
Highlighting Kwara’s innovation in sustainable technology, Adelodun revealed that, in partnership with Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, the state recently pioneered Nigeria’s first gas-to-electric vehicle conversion project, underscoring Kwara’s leadership in green technology and environmental sustainability.
She added that through the Office of the Special Assistant on Digital Innovation, the state’s Coding and Digital Literacy Programme (Holiday Edition) has trained over 5,500 students from 50 public schools across all 16 Local Government Areas — a move she described as a bold step toward building a tech-driven and youth-empowered Kwara.
Providing updates on major infrastructure projects, Adelodun disclosed that the Ilorin International Conference Centre (IICC) is 47.03% complete and will be delivered in the first quarter of 2026, while the Kwara Hotel Remodeling Project, now 71% complete, is also scheduled for completion within the same period. Both projects, she said, will enhance tourism, attract investors, and expand the state’s hospitality and conference economy.
In a major industrial development update, the Commissioner announced that the 50-ton Shea Butter Factory in Kaiama has reached the equipment testing stage and is set for commissioning soon. The facility, she said, will boost Kwara’s export potential, empower local farmers, and promote value addition within the state’s agro-industrial sector.
Similarly, she confirmed the completion of the ICT Hub in Shonga, while disclosing that the Patigi Regatta Motel and other strategic projects across the state are scheduled for commissioning in the coming months.
Adelodun reaffirmed that these initiatives reflect the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration’s vision to position Kwara as a hub of innovation, creativity, and inclusive economic growth.
