In a key fiscal development, the Kwara State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill, approving a total budget of ₦656.5 billion for the upcoming fiscal year, an upward revision of ₦10.5 billion from the figure originally presented by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The bill was approved on Friday, January 30, 2026, during plenary after lawmakers considered and adopted the recommendations of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation. The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, announced the passage, describing the revised budget as both “realistic” and “aligned with the state’s development priorities.”

According to legislative leaders, the review process focused on thorough scrutiny of the state’s financial estimates to ensure fiscal prudence and effective implementation.

The total passed Budget Size is ₦656.5 billion a ₦10.5 billion increase from the original amount presented by Gov. AbdulRazaq.

Recurrent Expenditure accounts for Over ₦409.6 billion, reflecting the adjustment by the lawmakers.

Capital Expenditure was raised to ₦271 billion from the original proposal of ₦254 billion to support infrastructure and development projects.

Debt Servicing during the fiscal year is projected at approximately ₦14.2 billion, slightly higher than earlier projections.

The budget revision aims to strengthen funding for key sectors, accelerate ongoing projects, and enhance the delivery of public services across the state. Lawmakers emphasized that the new allocations reflect an effort to balance fiscal responsibility with developmental needs.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had earlier presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly with an estimated value of approximately ₦644.004 billion. That proposal tagged “Budget of Consolidation and Sustained Growth” was designed to prioritise the completion of ongoing projects, strengthen security, enhance workers’ welfare, and support key sectors such as health, education, and agriculture.

Following its passage by the legislature, the budget will now be transmitted to the Governor for assent before it becomes law and guides the state’s 2026 fiscal operations.

The approved budget reflects the Kwara State government’s ongoing efforts to balance economic challenges with the need for infrastructure investment and improved public services. By expanding capital allocation and slightly increasing recurrent expenditure, lawmakers signal a commitment to growth, accountability, and value for taxpayer funds.
