The National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, has pleaded not guilty to a 12-count charge of alleged money laundering and terrorism financing brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Bodejo was arraigned on Thursday before Justice Inyang Ekwo, where the anti-graft agency accused him of offences involving approximately $2.53 million—not $2.63 million as initially reported. The charges stem from allegations that he received and retained substantial sums of foreign currency suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, contrary to Nigeria’s anti-money laundering laws.
According to the EFCC, the 12-count charge was filed on June 22, 2026. The commission alleges that Bodejo accepted multiple cash payments in foreign currency outside the formal banking system, an action it says violated provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Some of the alleged transactions were reportedly linked to Sa’idu Abubakar, a former Accountant-General of Bauchi State who is currently in police custody.
At Thursday’s proceedings, prosecution counsel informed the court that the matter was slated for the defendant to enter his plea. Defence counsel, Ahmed Raji (SAN), raised no objection to the arraignment proceeding.
After the 12-count charge was read in open court, Bodejo entered a plea of not guilty to all counts.
Following the plea, Justice Ekwo adjourned the case for further proceedings in line with the judicial process. A date for the continuation of the trial is expected to be communicated by the court.
Under Nigerian law, the charges remain allegations, and Bodejo is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by the court.
