The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has removed Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin from his position as Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), barely six months after he assumed the role in a major leadership reshuffle within the police hierarchy.
The decision was reportedly approved on Thursday, March 5, 2026, though the police authorities had not immediately provided an official explanation for the sudden change at the time of filing this report.
Hundeyin had taken over as the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force in September 2025, succeeding Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi after the latter was redeployed to another assignment within the force.
During his brief tenure as Force PRO, Hundeyin was responsible for managing the public communication and media relations of the police nationwide, including issuing official statements and clarifying the force’s position on security and law enforcement matters.
The development comes amid a wider leadership shake-up in the police institution following recent changes at the top of the force. The current Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, assumed office in February 2026 after replacing Kayode Egbetokun, who stepped down from the position.
Sources familiar with the development said the removal of Hundeyin formed part of internal administrative adjustments being implemented under the new police leadership. However, the force has yet to officially announce his replacement as spokesperson.
Before his appointment as Force PRO, Hundeyin served as the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command and had built a public profile through regular engagement with journalists and social media users on policing issues.
Hundeyin, who holds a degree in English from Lagos State University and a master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan, has also participated in international peacekeeping missions and is a member of several professional bodies in communications and human resource management.
Observers say the abrupt removal of the police spokesperson just months after his appointment highlights the ongoing restructuring within the Nigeria Police Force as the new leadership moves to reorganize key positions in the institution.
