A fresh attack by suspected terrorists has left one person dead, another abducted, and several others injured in Wande community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The attack, which occurred on Wednesday night, has heightened concerns over the worsening security situation across parts of Kwara South.
According to information reported by Afrika Eyes, heavily armed assailants invaded the community, opened fire, assaulted residents, and fled after abducting one victim.
A resident who survived the attack said he sustained a head injury after being struck with the butt of a gun by one of the attackers.
“They hit me on the head with the butt of their gun. I have been bleeding since then. We are taking the person who was shot to the hospital in Igbaja,” the victim reportedly said.
Community sources confirmed that one resident was killed during the assault, while another was taken away by the attackers. Several others were also said to have suffered varying degrees of injuries.
The incident has deepened fears among residents, many of whom say repeated attacks by armed groups have forced people to flee several communities in Kwara South.
A security source indicated that the attackers may have been escaping from an earlier military and security operation carried out in Yaru town on Wednesday. The source said security operatives engaged the suspected terrorists, forcing them to retreat towards the Wande axis.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the latest attack as residents continue to call for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities.
