In a significant security breakthrough, operatives of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards have arrested a commercial driver allegedly transporting a cache of dangerous items to a bandits’ hideout in Bindin village.
The suspect was intercepted during a routine patrol in Maru Local Government Area, a region that has witnessed persistent banditry and armed attacks in recent years. According to security sources, the driver was found in possession of 98 explosive devices, a large sum of ₦13 million in cash, and three motorcycles believed to be logistical support items intended for criminal operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosives were being transported for use by armed bandits operating within forest enclaves around the area. The motorcycles, often favored by such groups for their mobility in difficult terrain, were also suspected to be part of the delivery package meant to strengthen the operational capacity of the criminal network.
Security officials disclosed that the arrest followed actionable intelligence and heightened surveillance across vulnerable routes linking rural communities to known bandit corridors. The suspect is currently in custody and is said to be cooperating with investigators, providing useful leads that may aid further arrests.
Authorities in Zamfara State have reiterated their commitment to dismantling supply chains that sustain banditry, emphasizing that cutting off logistics remains a critical strategy in weakening armed groups.
The interception underscores the growing role of local security outfits like the Community Protection Guards in complementing conventional security agencies. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, as efforts intensify to restore peace and stability across affected communities.
Further updates are expected as investigations progress and security agencies move to uncover the broader network behind the attempted delivery.
