2027: Amaechi, David Mark Can’t Deliver Rivers, Benue to ADC — Wike

Posted on April 18, 2026April 18, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on 2027: Amaechi, David Mark Can’t Deliver Rivers, Benue to ADC — Wike

Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the political weight of opposition figures Rotimi Amaechi and David Mark, insisting they lack the capacity to swing their home states to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike’s remarks come amid intensifying political alignments and coalition-building efforts by opposition leaders who have adopted the ADC as a platform to challenge the ruling party in 2027.

Speaking in reaction to the growing coalition, the FCT minister argued that neither Amaechi nor Mark commands the kind of grassroots control required to decisively influence electoral outcomes in Rivers State and Benue State respectively. According to him, political realities on the ground have shifted significantly, weakening the ability of former power brokers to “deliver” states based on past influence.

Amaechi, who governed Rivers State between 2007 and 2015 and later served as Minister of Transportation, has been linked to the ADC and is considered a potential figure in the emerging opposition coalition. Meanwhile, Mark, a former Senate President and long-serving senator from Benue South, now plays a leading role within the ADC after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and long-time political rival of Amaechi, has consistently questioned the latter’s electoral strength, often referencing their protracted political feud and shifting loyalties in the state’s power structure.

His latest comments underscore the deepening rivalry between key political actors as the 2027 elections approach. Analysts note that Rivers State remains a critical battleground due to its voting strength and history of high-stakes political contests, while Benue continues to be influential in North-Central electoral calculations.

The ADC-led coalition, which includes several opposition heavyweights, has been actively courting political stakeholders across regions in a bid to build a formidable challenge to the ruling establishment. However, Wike maintains that such efforts may not translate into actual electoral victories without strong local structures.

With political realignments still unfolding, Wike’s statement signals that the contest for control of key states like Rivers and Benue will be fiercely contested, with no single figure able to unilaterally guarantee outcomes.
