The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has accused the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, IMF, of undermining Nigeria’s public education.
ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, stated this during the union’s Heroes Day 2024-2025 ceremony in Abuja.
Osodeke expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in renegotiating its 2009 agreement with the federal government despite multiple Memoranda of Understanding, MoUs, and Memoranda of Action, MoAs, lamenting that the agreement remains unsigned.
He outlined additional grievances, including the enforced Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, IPPIS, and the withholding of ASUU members’ salaries for three and a half months.
The union also announced the distribution of PhD grants worth N500,000 each to selected members following rigorous proposal evaluations.
