The Nigerian military has rescued three abducted worshippers following a violent attack on a church in Kwara State, while intensifying operations to track down the perpetrators behind the incident.
The attack occurred in the Ora-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, where armed assailants stormed an Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) during a service and abducted several congregants.
Security sources confirmed that a joint response involving the military, local vigilantes, and other security operatives led to the successful rescue of three victims shortly after the incident.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attackers invaded the church premises while worship was ongoing, causing panic as they whisked away worshippers into nearby forests before security forces intervened.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining abducted victims. The Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, commended the swift and coordinated response of security agencies, noting that it helped repel the attackers and limit casualties.
Meanwhile, the military has launched a sustained operation to hunt down the suspected terrorists responsible for the assault. Troops have intensified surveillance and combing operations across surrounding forest areas believed to serve as hideouts for the attackers.
The incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Kwara State and the wider North-Central region, where communities have faced increasing threats from armed groups engaging in kidnappings and attacks on soft targets, including places of worship.
