Arsenal kicked off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United in a tense and closely contested season opener.
The match’s only goal came in the 13th–14th minute, when Riccardo Calafiori rose highest to head in a corner, capitalizing on a misjudgment from United’s stand-in goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
The goal stemmed from the defensive confusion around the set piece, demonstrating Arsenal’s deadly efficiency from dead-ball situations.
Although the Gooner’s attacking rhythm was disjointed, their backline held firm. Despite Manchester United launching 22 shots and enjoying 61% possession, Arsenal managed to keep a clean sheet, thanks to a combination of defensive resilience and timely intervention from celebrated and decorated keeper David Raya.
Undeterred by the loss, United boss Ruben Amorim struck an optimistic tone post-match. He praised his squad’s improved aggression, pressing intensity, and ball control, citing performances from summer signings like Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Also noted by fans and pundits was Calafiori’s exploit while Bayindir’s blunder raised fresh questions over United’s goalkeeping depth.
