Landlords and residents across four communities in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State have raised strong objections to the construction of hotels and alcohol joints within their neighborhoods.
The affected communities, Ifesowapo, Alalubarika, Osere, and Okoerin in Okoerin Ward said such establishments pose serious threats to security and social order.

Speaking after a joint security meeting, Alhaji Abdulwahab Opeloyeru, Chairman of the Ifesowapo Community and spokesperson for the residents, explained that the decision was reached in response to an ongoing hotel project in the area.
According to him, siting hotels and beer parlours in a densely populated residential environment could encourage crime, promote social vices, and negatively influence young people.
“We believe allowing such facilities here will disturb the peace and harmony we currently enjoy. For this reason, both landlords and residents have unanimously rejected the idea and clearly expressed our displeasure to the developer,” Opeloyeru said.
He further disclosed that the communities had officially reported their concerns to the Kwara State Police Command as well as the State Town Planning Authority. This, he explained, was done to ensure proactive steps are taken to prevent potential crises and maintain peace within the affected communities.
