The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that, starting October 6, 2025, all graduates seeking mobilisation or exemption for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) must upload their final academic project thesis, dissertation, or project report into the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD).
According to a circular approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the policy is designed to strengthen academic credibility, curb certificate fraud, and create a national database of scholarly output.
The directive is backed by provisions of the NYSC Act and the NERD policy, which were activated by the Ministry of Education earlier in the year.
Key Requirements
Submission Deadline: Mandatory for all NYSC applicants from October 6, 2025.
Who Must Comply: Graduates of Nigerian and foreign universities applying for NYSC mobilization or exemption.
Details Needed: Upload must include the student’s name, supervisor(s), department, and sponsoring institution.
Exemptions: Corps members already serving or mobilised before the enforcement date are not affected.
The Education Ministry says the repository will also allow students and supervisors to earn royalties from their deposited work, while helping institutions maintain quality assurance and verifiable records.
Graduates are advised to secure digital copies of their projects and monitor official NERD/NYSC portals for step-by-step upload guidelines to avoid delays in mobilisation.
