The National Judicial Council (NJC) has officially cleared the Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Oyebola Ojo, of allegations bordering on financial recklessness, diversion of funds, and judicial misconduct.
The decision followed the NJC’s consideration and adoption of the report submitted by a three-member investigative committee constituted to examine several petitions filed against the Osun State Chief Judge. After a detailed review, the council found the allegations to be unsubstantiated.
According to the NJC, the investigative panel was set up in line with established procedures to thoroughly probe the claims and ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability within the judiciary. The committee’s findings reportedly absolved Justice Ojo of any wrongdoing.
The council announced the outcome at its 110th plenary meeting held on January 13. The meeting was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
In its resolution, the NJC stated that the petitions failed to establish any evidence of financial impropriety, misuse of judicial office, or conduct inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of a judicial officer.
The clearance effectively brings an end to the disciplinary review process against the Osun State Chief Judge, reaffirming the NJC’s role as the constitutional body responsible for safeguarding judicial integrity and discipline in Nigeria.
The NJC’s decision underscores its commitment to due process and reinforces the principle that allegations against judicial officers must be proven through credible evidence before sanctions can be imposed.
Justice Oyebola Ojo continues in office following the council’s resolution, with the NJC reiterating its dedication to maintaining public confidence in the Nigerian judiciary through impartial and thorough oversight mechanisms.
