Arsenal continued their sparkling European form on Tuesday night with a commanding 3–0 victory over Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League, a night that also witnessed 15-year-old Max Dowman etch his name into the record books as the youngest player ever to feature in the competition.
The Gunners travelled to the Czech capital in buoyant spirits, having won all their group-stage matches so far, and wasted no time asserting dominance over Slavia Prague. Their control of possession, composure in defence, and ruthlessness in front of goal ensured another comfortable European night for Mikel Arteta’s side. Arsenal’s victory also extended their impressive clean-sheet streak to eight games, equalling a club record set over a century ago in 1903.
The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute after a period of sustained pressure when Bukayo Saka calmly slotted home from the penalty spot following a handball incident confirmed by VAR. The England international, who has been instrumental in Arsenal’s campaign so far, once again delivered when it mattered, giving his side a deserved first-half lead.
Just seconds into the second half, Arsenal doubled their advantage. Mikel Merino, playing in a more advanced role due to injuries within the squad, reacted sharply to finish off a neat team move only 36 seconds after the restart. The Spanish midfielder wasn’t done yet; he added his second of the night midway through the second half, rising highest to head home from a perfectly weighted cross, sealing the win and completing a dominant individual performance.

While Merino’s brace was the immediate highlight on the scoresheet, it was the introduction of 15-year-old Max Dowman in the 72nd minute that truly stole the spotlight. The academy prospect, aged just 15 years and 308 days, became the youngest player ever to appear in a UEFA Champions League match, surpassing the record previously held by Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko.
Dowman’s cameo was brief but memorable. Within moments of stepping onto the pitch, he showed confidence beyond his years, attempting a dribble past an opponent and winning a foul in the process. His composure, movement, and eagerness to contribute left fans and pundits alike in awe of the teenager’s maturity on such a massive stage.
After the game, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was full of praise for the youngster, describing his performance as “fearless and full of character.” The Spaniard said, “The first ball he gets, he takes people on. That’s personality, that’s courage. We are all proud of him, he deserves his moment.” Arteta’s comments further underscored Arsenal’s ongoing commitment to nurturing young talents from their academy system.
The win keeps Arsenal firmly on top of Group F with a perfect record of four wins from four games, ensuring early control of their qualification hopes. Their defensive solidity highlighted by another clean sheet, has also made them one of the most balanced sides in this season’s Champions League. Slavia Prague, on the other hand, remain winless in the group and face an uphill battle to keep their European hopes alive.
For Arsenal, this match was more than just another group-stage win; it was a showcase of the club’s present strength and future promise. The experienced heads like Saka and Merino continue to deliver, while emerging stars such as Dowman represent the next generation of Gunners ready to step into the spotlight.
As the final whistle blew in Prague, Arsenal’s fans had every reason to celebrate not just for another emphatic victory, but for witnessing history in the making. A 3–0 triumph, an unbroken clean-sheet streak, and the debut of the youngest-ever player in Champions League history all combined to mark a special European night for the North London side.
