Arsenal delivered one of their most complete European performances of the 2025/26 season, defeating Bayern Munich 3–1 in a pulsating UEFA Champions League Matchday 5 clash at the Emirates Stadium Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
The victory puts Arsenal firmly in contention for qualification to the Round of 16, while Bayern, one of the tournament’s traditional heavyweights struggled to cope with the intensity and tactical precision of Mikel Arteta’s side
It was indeed a statement result that maintained their perfect start to the group stage.
The opening goal came in the 22nd minute, when Jurrien Timber rose highest to head home from a corner delivered by Bukayo Saka, giving Arsenal the lead and sending the home crowd into raptures.
However, Bayern quickly responded. Just before halftime. In the 32nd minute, 17‑year‑old Lennart Karl struck to level the score, converting a chance created by Serge Gnabry following a precise build‑up from the Bavarian defence. The game entered the break at 1–1.

In the second half, Arsenal’s resilience and squad depth began to tell. The pressure on Bayern increased as Mikel Arteta’s side pushed to regain the lead. Their persistence paid off thanks to a substitute: Noni Madueke who scored to put Arsenal 2–1 ahead, capitalizing on a defensive slip from Bayern.
Not long after, another substitute, Gabriel Martinelli added a third for Arsenal, sealing the 3–1 win. The two second‑half goals underscored the depth of Arsenal’s squad and their ability to finish chances when it mattered most.
Bayern’s first defeat of the season in all competitions ended their perfect run and highlighted the frailties in their defence particularly on set pieces and during transitions, where Timber’s header and later Madueke and Martinelli’s goals were born.
For Arsenal, the result means five wins from five in the group stage, confirming them as the only side in the competition to maintain a 100% record so far, and putting them in an enviable position to secure advancement to the Round of 16.
Also notable, the match marked the first time Arsenal have beaten Bayern Munich in a decade in a competitive fixture, making the win even more significant for the club and its supporters who remained in elated moods all evening.
Overall, Arsenal’s blend of set-piece excellence, tactical discipline, effective substitutions and clinical finishing delivered a memorable night at the Emirates, a performance that sends a clear message to Europe that Arsenal are serious contenders this season.
