On Wednesday, the White House in Washington, D.C., was placed on lockdown after two members of the U.S. National Guard were shot just a few blocks away near the entrance to Farragut West Metro Station.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the shooting was reported around 2:20 p.m. local time, and emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. Police confirmed that one suspect is in custody.

Authorities secured the area surrounding the metro station and the White House complex. The lockdown came while Donald J. Trump, then President of the United States, was away in Florida.
At this moment, the conditions of the two wounded Guardsmen are unclear, though federal and local law-enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), have arrived to assist, and a full investigation is underway.
This incident has raised urgent security concerns in Washington, given the proximity to the nation’s most sensitive government residence and the continuing presence of National Guard troops in the capital.
