The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public health alert and banned the sale and distribution of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles after foreign food safety authorities discovered the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs, in the product — a serious concern for consumers with allergies or intolerances.
In a statement published as Public Alert No. 041/2025, NAFDAC disclosed that the advisory follows a notice from France’s food safety authority, Rappel Conso, which recalled the Indomie Vegetable Flavour product due to the undeclared presence of milk and eggs, ingredients not listed on the label but capable of causing severe allergic reactions.
The recalled product covers all batches of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles with a best-before date of February 6, 2026. NAFDAC explained that undeclared allergens like milk and eggs can provoke serious health issues, including breathing difficulties, skin reactions, and potentially life-threatening responses in individuals with known allergies.
While Indomie noodles are widely consumed globally for their convenience and affordability, NAFDAC stressed that the official risk of the recalled batches entering Nigeria remains low due to the Federal Government’s existing ban on imported noodles. Despite this, the agency said there is still a possibility that the product could enter the country through online purchases, international travel, or illicit supply chains.
To mitigate any potential health threat, NAFDAC has activated nationwide surveillance and vigilance actions. All zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to intensify market monitoring, identify and confiscate any stocks found within their jurisdictions, and immediately remove them from circulation.
Distributors, retailers and consumers have been strongly urged to exercise caution and avoid selling, distributing, or consuming the recalled Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles. Those in possession of the affected product are advised to discard it safely and report any sightings to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the agency’s toll-free line: 0800-162-3322.
In addition to the recall, NAFDAC is encouraging the public to report any adverse health reactions suspected to be linked to the consumption of the affected product through its e-reporting platforms on the official NAFDAC website.
Food safety experts say accurate ingredient labelling is critical to protecting consumers, especially those with known allergies, as undeclared allergens can trigger serious, and at times life-threatening, reactions. NAFDAC’s action highlights its ongoing commitment to enforcing food safety standards and safeguarding public health in Nigeria.
As the alert spreads, the regulator’s focus remains on preventing the circulation of unsafe food products and ensuring compliance with Nigerian food safety laws, which mandate full disclosure of all ingredients on product labels.
