PDP Crisis: Wike-Led Faction Calls for BoT Meeting After Court Rulings, Warns Aggrieved Members Against Supreme Court Appeal

Posted on March 10, 2026March 10, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on PDP Crisis: Wike-Led Faction Calls for BoT Meeting After Court Rulings, Warns Aggrieved Members Against Supreme Court Appeal

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened as a faction loyal to Nyesom Wike has called for an urgent meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) following recent court rulings on the party’s leadership dispute.

The move comes after the Court of Appeal of Nigeria upheld an earlier judgment nullifying the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025, which produced a new leadership for the party. The court ruled that the convention was conducted in violation of existing court orders and failed to comply with legal procedures required for such exercises.

Reacting to the judgment, the Wike-aligned bloc described the ruling as a victory for the rule of law and an opportunity for the party to rebuild its internal structures. The faction said the decision effectively invalidated the leadership that emerged from the disputed convention and reaffirmed the need for the party to return to due process.

As part of efforts to address the situation, the faction disclosed that a meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees—led by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa within that bloc—has been scheduled to deliberate on the implications of the court rulings and chart a way forward for the opposition party.

Speaking on the development, Wike urged members of the party who are dissatisfied with the judgment to reconsider pursuing further litigation. According to him, escalating the dispute to the Supreme Court of Nigeria could further weaken the party at a time it needs unity.

He warned that prolonged legal battles may harm the PDP’s chances of stabilising ahead of future political activities, especially with party primaries expected in the coming months.

Wike stressed that the judgment should serve as a turning point for reconciliation among party members. He called on aggrieved leaders to set aside personal interests and return to the negotiating table in order to rebuild the party as a credible opposition force in the country.

The ongoing dispute stems from long-running leadership disagreements within the PDP, which have resulted in competing factions, court cases and conflicting decisions over the legitimacy of party structures. Analysts say the outcome of the latest legal battles—and possible appeals—could shape the party’s internal stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Despite the tensions, Wike maintained that the party still has the opportunity to reorganise itself if members prioritise unity and adherence to its constitution and electoral laws.
