Fresh controversy has emerged around former Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad El‑Rufai, following reports that Nigeria’s anti-graft agency has traced several luxury properties in Egypt to him.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) uncovered a number of high-value houses and apartments during an ongoing probe into financial activities linked to El-Rufai’s time in office between 2015 and 2023.
The properties are reportedly located in upscale districts of Cairo, particularly in the high-end New Cairo area known for luxury residential estates.
Investigators are said to be examining several properties believed to have been acquired between 2021 and 2023. They include:
A villa at House No. 113, Arabella Estate, Fifth Settlement, New Cairo
A villa at House No. 18, Banafsik (Banafsek) Estate, First Settlement, New Cairo
A property in Oriana II Estate, located close to the American University in Cairo
Additional luxury apartments and villas in elite residential areas within New Cairo
Sources within the anti-corruption agency reportedly described the properties as multi-million-dollar assets, though their exact valuation has not yet been officially disclosed.

The discovery is said to form part of a broader investigation by the ICPC into alleged financial irregularities connected with the former governor’s administration in Kaduna State.
Investigators are reportedly reviewing documents, financial transactions, and asset records to determine whether any public funds were used in acquiring the properties. Officials have not yet announced formal charges related to the Egyptian real estate.
Meanwhile, El-Rufai has denied any wrongdoing. His lawyers argue that the allegations are politically motivated and have accused investigators of attempting to damage his reputation.
The former governor, who is a prominent figure within the opposition ADC, has maintained that he is ready to defend himself and cooperate with lawful investigations.
As of the time of filing this report, the ICPC has not issued a detailed public statement confirming the full list of the properties allegedly linked to the former governor. However, officials say the probe remains active and further findings may emerge as the investigation progresses.
