Four Officers, Hunter Dead Following Boko Haram/ISWAP Attack on Borno Police Facility

Posted on April 5, 2026April 5, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on Four Officers, Hunter Dead Following Boko Haram/ISWAP Attack on Borno Police Facility

Suspected terrorists linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have killed at least four police officers and a local hunter in a fresh attack in Borno State, Nigeria’s insurgency-ravaged northeast.

The deadly assault reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 4, 2026, when heavily armed fighters stormed a divisional police headquarters in Nganzai Local Government Area.

The attackers, believed to be members of Boko Haram/ISWAP, attempted to overrun the facility while also targeting nearby civilian locations.

During the attack, four policemen on duty were gunned down, alongside a hunter who was part of local security support efforts. Several buildings, including homes within the community, were also set ablaze as the insurgents unleashed violence on the area.

Security sources indicated that the assault formed part of a coordinated series of attack by insurgents aimed at destabilizing communities along the Maiduguri–Monguno axis, a region that has repeatedly come under attack due to its strategic importance.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the incident and disclosed that reinforcement teams were swiftly deployed to repel the attackers and secure the affected communities.

Authorities emphasized their continued commitment to safeguarding lives and preventing further incursions by terrorist groups operating in the region.

This latest attack underscores the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram and ISWAP factions in northeastern Nigeria, despite ongoing military operations to degrade their capabilities. In recent months, the groups have intensified assaults on security formations and civilian settlements, reflecting a troubling resurgence in insurgent activity across Borno State and the wider Lake Chad region.

The renewed violence highlights the fragile security situation in the northeast, where communities continue to grapple with sporadic attacks, displacement, and humanitarian challenges more than a decade after the insurgency began.
