The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of twelve individuals in connection with the violent robbery that took place at Unique Apartments, Katampe Extension, Mabushi, Abuja, on September 29, 2025, where ARISE News journalist Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu and security guard Barnabas Danlami lost their lives.
At a press conference held on Saturday at the FCT Police Command Headquarters, Garki, Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer gave an update on the investigation and praised the tireless work of police operatives who cracked the case within two weeks.
“Following a coordinated intelligence-led operation, twelve suspects directly linked to the robbery were apprehended,” the spokesperson disclosed.
The suspects were named as: Shamsudeen Hassan, Hassan Isah (22), Abubakar AlKamu (a.k.a. Abba, 27), Sani Sirajo (a.k.a. Dan Borume, 20), Mashkur Jamilu (a.k.a. Abba, 28), Suleiman Badamasi (a.k.a. Dan-Sule, 21), Abdulsalam Saleh (a.k.a. Na-Durudu), Zaharadeen Muhammad (a.k.a. Gwaska, 23), Musa Adamu (a.k.a. Musa Hassan, 30), Sumayya Mohammed (a.k.a. Baby, 27), Isah Abdulrahman (a.k.a. Abbati, 25), and Musa Umar (a.k.a. Small, 31).
The Police recovered a cache of weapons and other items from the gang, including one locally made AK-47 rifle, one locally made pistol, one pump-action gun, 36 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, two live cartridges, four mobile phones, two knives, a cutlass, and two flashlights.
Preliminary findings indicated that Shamsudeen Hassan fired the gunshot that killed the security guard while attempting to force entry into the compound. The investigation also uncovered that the syndicate sourced their firearms from a yet-to-be-identified arms dealer in Niger Republic, and had been involved in several robberies across Katampe I, Apo, Zuba, and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement of sympathy, the Nigeria Police expressed condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased victims and vowed to ensure justice is served.
“The Force commiserates with the families and friends of Ms. Maduagwu and Mr. Danlami. We assure Nigerians that justice will run its full course,” the spokesperson said.
Commending the FCT Police Command for its professionalism and diligence, the Force reiterated its commitment to public safety and urged citizens to remain alert and report suspicious activities.
“We urge residents to stay vigilant and share credible information that can aid ongoing investigations and help curb crime,” the statement added.
The police confirmed that investigations are still ongoing and promised to provide additional updates as new details emerge.
