Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement Emerges as Supporters Launch Political Pressure Group Ahead of ADC Primaries

Posted on April 21, 2026April 21, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement Emerges as Supporters Launch Political Pressure Group Ahead of ADC Primaries

Supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have formally launched a coordinated political pressure group ahead of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries, signaling deeper alignment between two of Nigeria’s major opposition political forces.

The newly unveiled platform, known as the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement (OK Movement), was announced in Abuja and is designed to mobilise support across the country in anticipation of the 2027 election cycle and the upcoming ADC internal contests.

According to a statement issued by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Justin Ijeh, the movement is structured as a broad coalition of existing political blocs, including the Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiyya Network, segments of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The group said it has already established operational structures across all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, with appointed coordinators at both state and zonal levels to drive grassroots mobilisation.

Political observers note that the emergence of the movement reflects growing realignments within Nigeria’s opposition landscape, especially within the ADC, which has increasingly become a convergence point for several high-profile politicians and blocs seeking an alternative platform ahead of 2027.

Both Obi and Kwankwaso have not formally announced a joint ticket or personal alliance under the ADC, but their respective support bases have increasingly shown convergence around the idea of collaboration as opposition parties intensify negotiations ahead of the primaries.

The development comes amid wider speculation about coalition-building efforts within the ADC, where various political interests are reportedly seeking to position themselves ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive presidential selection process.

For now, the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement appears positioned as a pressure group aimed at influencing party dynamics rather than a formally declared electoral alliance, but its emergence further underscores the evolving strategic calculations within Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the next general election cycle.
