The Nigerian military has intensified its offensive against armed bandit groups in the North-West, carrying out a precision air strike that reportedly disrupted a major gathering of suspected terrorists along the Niger–Kaduna–Zamfara border.
According to security sources, the operation targeted Dogon Dawa, where intelligence reports indicated that a large number of armed bandits had assembled to coordinate attacks on surrounding communities. The strike was executed after surveillance confirmed the presence of the suspected fighters at the location.
Military sources said the air operation inflicted heavy losses on the group, with a significant number of the suspected bandits neutralised during the engagement. Intelligence gathered after the strike also indicated that more than a hundred motorcycles, believed to have been assembled to facilitate the planned attacks and provide mobility for the criminal network, were at the site when it was hit.
Preliminary Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) and follow-up intelligence further revealed that several surviving fighters, many reportedly injured, fled towards forested areas between Shadadi and Ma’undu through the Mangwaro axis. The retreat is said to have disrupted the group’s operational plans before any attacks could be launched.
Security officials described the operation as another example of the military’s intelligence-led strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks, restricting their freedom of movement, and preventing attacks on vulnerable communities.
The latest strike also underscores the growing coordination between intelligence agencies and the Air Component of ongoing military operations, enabling the identification, tracking and engagement of high-value bandit targets across the North-West and parts of the North-Central region.
The Nigerian military has sustained aerial and ground offensives against bandit enclaves in recent months as part of broader efforts to restore security in areas affected by armed violence. Authorities have maintained that operations will continue until criminal groups are significantly degraded and normalcy is restored to affected communities.
