Judges’ Housing Scheme is Owner-Occupier Initiative Pending Tinubu’s Final Approval – Wike

Posted on July 15, 2026July 15, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on Judges’ Housing Scheme is Owner-Occupier Initiative Pending Tinubu’s Final Approval – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the newly completed residential quarters for judges will be allocated under an owner-occupier arrangement, with the proposal awaiting the final approval of President Bola Tinubu.

Wike made the disclosure on Wednesday during the inauguration of newly constructed judges’ quarters in Abuja, explaining that the initiative is designed to strengthen judicial independence by ensuring that judicial officers have secure accommodation that will eventually become their personal property after retirement, subject to presidential approval.

According to the minister, the housing policy is intended to improve the welfare of judges while insulating them from undue pressure or external influence that could arise from dependence on rented accommodation.

He stressed that providing secure homes for judicial officers is part of the Federal Government’s broader commitment to reinforcing the independence and integrity of the judiciary.

Wike explained that the owner-occupier model would allow eligible judges to retain ownership of the houses after completing their service, provided President Tinubu gives the necessary approval for the arrangement.

The minister noted that the initiative aligns with the administration’s ongoing investment in judicial infrastructure, describing improved welfare as a critical component of a stronger justice system.

The housing project forms part of a wider effort by the FCT Administration to provide modern residential facilities for judicial officers across various courts operating in the nation’s capital.

Government officials have consistently argued that secure housing for judges enhances their ability to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without fear, intimidation or financial uncertainty.
