German Embassy Warns Nigerians: We Don’t Work With Visa Agents

Posted on August 26, 2026August 26, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on German Embassy Warns Nigerians: We Don’t Work With Visa Agents

The German Embassy in Nigeria has issued a fresh warning to Nigerians seeking visas to Germany, cautioning applicants against relying on individuals who present themselves as “visa agents” or claim to have special access to the German visa process.

The warning was issued on Wednesday through the embassy’s official social media channel, amid concerns over misinformation surrounding visa applications and procedures. The mission urged prospective applicants to verify claims directly with German diplomatic authorities rather than depending on third parties.

In a strongly worded message, the embassy asked Nigerians to be wary of misleading information and encouraged applicants to contact the mission directly whenever they encounter questionable claims about obtaining a German visa. It also invited members of the public to share claims they had heard from visa agents so that the embassy could address them.

The German mission made its position particularly clear by stating that it does not have partnerships with so-called visa agents. The clarification is significant because some applicants may pay private individuals or businesses believing that such persons can secure appointments, influence visa decisions or provide preferential access to consular services.

The embassy’s official visa information confirms that applicants are expected to follow established procedures rather than depend on intermediaries. For Schengen visa applications, the German Consulate General in Lagos is generally responsible, although certain applicants and cases fall under the jurisdiction of the German Embassy in Abuja.

The mission has also made clear that applicants must follow the prescribed application process, including submitting the required documents, booking appointments where applicable, attending interviews in person and paying the appropriate visa fee. This reinforces the embassy’s warning that applicants should obtain procedural information from official channels.

The warning comes as Germany remains an attractive destination for Nigerians seeking opportunities in education, employment, vocational training, business and other legitimate forms of migration. The increased interest has also created opportunities for individuals who market visa-related services to prospective travellers.

Applicants are therefore being encouraged to exercise particular caution before handing over money or personal documents to people claiming to have connections within the German visa system. The German missions have previously warned that private agents and organisations may make fraudulent offers, particularly around employment, study placements and immigration-related services.

There are also official channels available for applicants who need assistance understanding Germany’s visa requirements. The German Missions in Nigeria provide visa information online, while the Consular Services Portal is available for relevant categories. For certain applications in Lagos, VFS Global operates as the official service partner of the German Consulate General.

The embassy has further warned applicants about the serious consequences of submitting forged documents or false information. According to the German mission’s official guidance, applications containing fraudulent documents or false information can be rejected and may result in a Schengen-wide entry ban.

With the latest warning, the German Embassy is urging Nigerians to make official sources their first point of reference and to treat claims of privileged access to the visa system with suspicion. For prospective travellers, the message is straightforward: verify information directly with the German mission, follow the official application process and avoid paying unverified intermediaries who promise to guarantee a visa.
