PXES Investment Crisis: Nigerians Count Losses as Platform Blocks Withdrawals, Offices Stormed

Posted on September 12, 2026September 12, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on PXES Investment Crisis: Nigerians Count Losses as Platform Blocks Withdrawals, Offices Stormed

Nigerians who invested substantial sums of money in an online investment platform identified as PXES are reportedly counting their losses after the platform became inaccessible and withdrawals were said to have stopped, triggering anger among affected investors.

PXES, described in reports as an investment and savings platform, attracted participants with different investment packages and promises of regular returns. Some investors reportedly committed amounts ranging from tens of thousands of naira to more than ₦3 million, depending on the package selected.

The situation reportedly escalated in early September after users began experiencing difficulties accessing their accounts and withdrawing funds. Reports said the disruption left investors unable to recover either their initial capital or expected returns, although the total amount involved has not been independently established.

The fallout became particularly dramatic in Yola, Adamawa State, where aggrieved persons reportedly gathered at a premises identified as a PXES office. Videos circulating online appeared to show people removing furniture, electronic equipment and other items from the premises amid growing frustration over the alleged inability to access their funds.

A similar incident was reported in Kabba, Kogi State, where an office linked to the platform was reportedly stormed by angry customers following the reported suspension of withdrawals. However, the circumstances surrounding the removal of office property and whether those involved had any legal authority to take the items have not been independently established.

The precise number of Nigerians affected by the PXES crisis also remains unclear. While accounts circulating online have referred to thousands of participants and substantial losses, no verified figure for the total amount invested or lost by customers has been publicly established.

Concerns about the platform have also centred on the nature of its promised returns and business model. Some reports have described features allegedly associated with Ponzi-style schemes, but it is important to note that the available reports reviewed for this story do not establish that a Nigerian regulatory authority has formally declared PXES a Ponzi scheme.

The development comes against the backdrop of a warning issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in May 2026 over the growing promotion of unregistered online investment schemes through social media platforms and websites. The commission warned Nigerians against schemes promising unrealistic or guaranteed returns and urged prospective investors to verify the registration status of investment operators before committing funds.

According to the SEC, legitimate capital-market operators are required to register with the commission before commencing operations. The regulator has also warned that common red flags associated with Ponzi and pyramid schemes include unusually high returns, unclear business models, lack of regulatory registration and dependence on new investors to sustain payments to earlier participants.

For investors caught in the PXES crisis, the immediate questions remain whether the platform will resume operations, whether their funds can be recovered and whether authorities will investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported shutdown. As of the latest reports reviewed, there is no independently verified figure for the total losses, while the full identities and whereabouts of the operators responsible for the platform remain unclear.

The PXES episode has once again highlighted the financial risks Nigerians face when committing large sums to online platforms without independently verifying their ownership, underlying business model and regulatory status. For prospective investors, the SEC’s advice remains particularly relevant: verify an investment operator’s registration before transferring funds and treat promises of unusually high or guaranteed returns with extreme caution.
