The Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara South, Senator Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim, on Tuesday visited a former aspirant for the Senatorial district, Barr. Segun Olawoyin, at his residence in Offa, Kwara State.
The Senator paid Olawoyin a visit at his residence in continuation of his political tour and familiarization visit towards building a strong political force ahead of the 2023 election.

Speaking during the visit, Sen Rafiu expressed appreciation to Olawoyin, for his spirit of sportsmanship and commitment to work for the party’s success even after the consensus arrangement that produced him.
“I must state that your decision to halt your political ambition is a huge sacrifice that the party and I value more than words can say. I’ll always remember this for good,” Rafiu said.
The Ojoku-born politician sought for Olawoyin’s guidance and support, as well as that of his followers, noting that the party can only dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, at the polls if members of the opposition party work assiduously in unison.
In his remark, Olawoyin, who is also the Akinrogun of Offa, welcomed Senator Rafiu and his entourage, and appreciated them for deeming it necessary to pay him a visit.
He described the Senator as a great man and a viable candidate for the position. Olawoyin, who jostled for the Senatorial ticket before the consensus arrangement, stated that he has nothing against Rafiu, and will do everything in his capacity to support him. He also prayed for Rafiu’s victory and that of the PDP in 2023.
“Winning the elections for PDP is a great deal and a great opportunity to uplift our people. I wish you well and pray for the victory of all our party candidates,” he said.
A significant highlight of the meeting was when Olawoyin asked Rafiu to as a mark of honour remove his (Olawoyin) Senatorial banner from the front of his house and fold it.
This, the aspirant said, symbolizes the termination of his aspiration and collapse of his political structure in support of Senator Rafiu. The gesture was greeted with a loud applause and cheers from those present.
The senator, who went with a large crowd of followers, party faithful and supporters, also paid a private visit to the Olawoyin matriarch, Chief Mrs Olawoyin at her residence.
